Fattoria Le Pupille

Als wir diesen wunderbaren Morellino zum ersten Mal auf der Meraner Weinmesse 2018 verkostet haben, waren wir schlichtweg begeistert. Dieses Meisterstück von Elisabetta Geppetti ist für uns der schönste und spannendste Morellino di Scansano, den wir kennen. In die Nase springen betörende Beerenaromen, sowie Anklänge von Veilchen und Vanille. Die weichen und wunderbar eingebundenen Tannine verleihen dem Rotwein ein starkes Gerüst, am Gaumen erfreut eine harmonisch und runde Textur, ohne an Frische zu verlieren. Die Mischung aus Kraft und Eleganz ist beeindruckend und für diesen Preis einzigartig. Gratulation an diese Weltklasse-Winzerin von der Robert Parker schreibt: Es gibt immer ein einzelnes Gesicht, das für eine Region steht: Ein Produzent mit dem Charisma und den kommunikativen Fähigkeiten, die Aufgaben eines Botschafters erfüllen zu können, um in einem verhältnismäßig obskuren Anbaugebiet entstehende Weine auf die Weltbühne zu bringen. Neben dem Saffredi ist der Poggio Valente das Aushängeschild der Fattoria Le Pupille und ein weiterer Geniestreich der Starwinzerin Elisabetta Geppetti. Er besteht aus 100% Sangiovese und ist für uns eine der schönsten und faszinierendsten Interpretationen der Sangiovese-Traube in der Toskana. Wunderschöne Fruchtaromen von Sauerkirschen und reifen Beeren, gepaart mit einer perfekten Ausgewogenheit von Eleganz und Kraft erinnern an einen großen Brunello aus Montalcino. Der subtile und vielschichtige Tiefgang am Gaumen betört und zeigt, welch grosses Potential der Poggio Valente hat. 2020 ist für uns einer der bisher besten Jahrgängen überhaupt, die internationalen Bewertungen sind für einen Wein in dieser Preisklasse sensationell: Bewertungen: James Suckling vergibt 95 Punkte: Lots of rose petals on the nose, together with orange peel and cherries. Medium-bodied with very long and bright fruit character. Goes on for minutes, with so much energy and brightness. Drink or hold. Robert Parker: 94+ Punkte: Following a challenging harvest for Sangiovese, the Fattoria le Pupille 2020 Poggio Valente generates aromas of wild cherry, pressed violet, balsam herb and grilled rosemary. There is a lot of good freshness (this was the difficulty of the vintage), and the wine has good tannic support for a rich core of fruit. Poggio Valente is not dominated by oak, and that is also what sets it apart. Antonio Galloni: 94 Punkte: The 2020 Poggio Valentes, a varietal of Sangiovese, notes are amplified in a heady, effortless Tuscan red that hits all the right notes. Dark red/purplish fruit, rose petals, licorice, cedar and tobacco fill out the layers. The 2020 impresses with its superb balance and class.  ​​​​​​​

Falstaff vergibt 98 Punkte: Glänzendes, sattes Rubin mit leichtem Violettschimmer. Sehr ausdrucksvolle und tiefgründige Nase, eröffnet mit Noten nach Tabak und feuchter Erde, dann satt nach Cassis, im Hintergrund etwas Minze, vielschichtig. Am Gaumen sehr kraftvoll und mit viel süßem Schmelz ausgestattet, dunkelbeerige Frucht, dazu etwas Lakritze im Nachhall, sehr lange anhaltend. Robert Parker vergibt 96 Punkte: The Fattoria le Pupille 2018 Saffredi borrows quite a bit from all of the grapes that make up the blend (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot). These balanced results open to a round bouquet of dark fruit, black cherry and plum. As the wine warms in the glass, it shows spice, cured tobacco and campfire embers. This is a full-bodied expression, but not excessively so. It puts forth immediate elegance with carefully measured tannins and a fitting postscript of fresh acidity. This newest vintage of Saffredi should be hitting the market now, but if you buy it, you should plan on cellaring it. James Suckling vergibt 97 Punkte: A fantastic nose to this with currant, sage, rosemary and rose-petal character. Sweet tobacco and spicy chocolate, too. Very complex. The palate shows lovely depth of fruit with blackberries, blackcurrants and fine tannins. It’s racy and refined with a direct, focused palate. Just a baby. A blend of cabernet sauvignon 60%, merlot 32% and petite verdot 8%. This needs at least two or three years to soften. Try in 2023. Antonio Galloni vergibt 96+ Punkte: The 2018 Saffredi is a regal, elegant, supremely polished wine. It may very well be the most refined Saffredi I have ever tasted. Silky in its first impression, with striking aromatic presence and exceptional balance, the 2018 is a total knock-out. Sweet red cherry, plum, mocha, licorice and cinnamon accents develop over time, but it is the wine’s overall balance and poise that are so impressive today. The 2018 is an absolutely gorgeous Saffredi. It spent 20 months in French oak barrels, about 65% new. Don’t miss it. Der Falstaff vergibt 99(!) Punkte und schreibt: Leuchtendes Rubinrot. In der Nase zunächst nach frisch gebackenem Schwarzbrot, Preiselbeeren, feine erdige Noten, ein Hauch dunkle Schokolade, im Nachhall duftendes Edelholz. Am Gaumen saftig, klar, strahlend, präsent, mit eng verwobenem Tannin, kommt kontinuierlich saftig wieder, tolle Länge! James Suckling vergibt 98 Punkte: Impressive aromas of fresh herbs from the Tuscan coast, such as sage, mint, rosemary and thyme. Blackcurrants, too. Full-bodied with fine, chewy tannins that show beautiful length and consistency. Racy and beautiful, with lots of subtle and refined character. Slightly more cabernet sauvignon this year, which adds class to the wine. 80% cabernet sauvignon, 10% merlot and 10% petit verdot. Give this about three or four years of bottle age. Try after 2027. Weinwisser: 19+(!) Punkte Antonio Galloni vergibt 96+ Punkte: The 2020 Saffredi is compelling. Deep yet quite structured, 2020 is unlike any Saffredi I can recall tasting because of its balance of intense dark fruit and vertical structure. Plum, blackberry, pencil shavings, lavender and spice saturate the palate.  Robert Parker vergibt 95 Punkte: This blend of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 26% Merlot and 4% Petit Verdot is exuberant and explosive. The 2020 Saffredi reveals a very ripe and rich interpretation of this iconic wine made by Elisabetta Geppetti and her family. The blend of fruit is the same, but 2020 actually sees less oak intervention to allow that dark fruit to shine through. There is blackberry, perfumed rose, dried apricot, spice and sweet cinnamon. In all, the wine offers immediate fruit and a vertical delivery of flavors. Finding that combination of wine versus oak is not easy, Elisabetta tells me.
