Fattoria Le Pupille, Saffredi 2019

Ohne Zweifel ist der Paleo Rosso 2017 aktuell einer der spannendsten und faszinierendsten Rotweine Italiens, einer der besten Cabernet Francs weltweit und schlichtweg weltklasse. Am Gaumen gut strukturiert, druckvoll mit perfekt eingebundener Säure und betörenden Anklängen von Schokolade und Tabak, fasziniert er in der Nase mit einer Aromenwolke von dunklen Beeren und würzigen Mittelmeer-Kräutern. Die für die Maremma-Böden so typische Mineralität ist in dem unglaublich langem Finale omnipräsent. Der Jahrgang 2017 war in der südlichen Toskana von den klimatischen Verhältnissen her ideal für Cabernet Franc. Und darüber sind sich auch die internationalen Weinkritiker einig und vergeben Höchstbewertungen am laufendem Band. Robert Parker vergibt 97(+) Punkte und schreibt: The Three Graces of Le Macchiole are Messorio, Scrio and Paleo (Merlot, Syrah and Cabernet Franc, respectively). Of these three top-tier releases, my favorite is the 2017 Paleo. This is an upright and direct expression of the grape that carefully sheds some dusty or mineral aromas before opening the way for determined black fruit, charred meat, spice and cured tobacco or cigar. There is quite a bit of oak, but it works beautifully against the natural intensity and rich concentration of the hot vintage. More unexpected are those pretty tones of lilac, blue flower and aniseed that add to the detailed rendering and complexity of the bouquet. This wine won my heart. Some varietal character has been baked out because of the heat of the year. In exchange, readers will find a Paleo Rosso that will drink well with just a year or two in bottle. The 2017 was fermented in cement and aged for 14 months in French oak barrels, 90% new with light toast. Sehr klare Nase, zeigt Noten nach Waldheidelbeeren, Frucht und Würze, viel Tabak, spannend. Am Gaumen dichtes Tannin, stoffig, mit feiner Würze....

Neben dem Saffredi ist der Poggio Valente das Aushängeschild der Fattoria Le Pupille und ein weiterer Geniestreich der Starwinzerin Elisabetta Geppetti. Er besteht aus 100% Sangiovese und ist für uns eine der schönsten und faszinierendsten Interpretationen der Sangiovese-Traube in der Toskana. Wunderschöne Fruchtaromen von Sauerkirschen und reifen Beeren, gepaart mit einer perfekten Ausgewogenheit von Eleganz und Kraft erinnern an einen großen Brunello aus Montalcino. Der subtile und vielschichtige Tiefgang am Gaumen betört und zeigt, welch grosses Potential der Poggio Valente hat. 2019 ist für uns der wohl bisher beste Jahrgang überhaupt, die internationalen Bewertungen sind für einen Wein in dieser Preisklasse sensationell: Bewertungen: Robert Parker: 95 Punkte: This wine always stands out in my mind, and its worth dedicating a few words as to why. Poggio Valente offers us a rare opportunity to taste Sangiovese made according to the highest standards but from a territory—on the Tuscan Coast—that does not share a big legacy with monovarietal Sangiovese reds. The Fattoria le Pupille 2019 Poggio Valente was born in a happy vintage with a cool spring and a growing season that had plenty of underground water reserves to keep the vines hydrated well until the end of August. This is a full and generous wine with dark cherry and wild plum aromas that segue to tar, licorice and crushed slate. My sample (tasted a few weeks after bottling) was a little shy initially, but it quickly blossomed in the glass. James Suckling vergibt 95 Punkte: This is very dense and structured with stone and blackberry character. Full-bodied and intense with chewy tannins that frame the wine. Flavorful finish. Smoky and lightly bitter, in a good way. Pure sangiovese. This needs time to soften. Better after 2024.

Es handelt sich um kein banales internationales Modell, sondern um einen terroirgeprägten Wein....  ...Ganz von gerösteteten Noten befreit, verzeichnet der Wein nur in der dunklen Frucht eine warme Spur, lässt dann Platz für einen knackigen, tonischen Geschmack, in dem Vollmundigkeit und Schlichtheit aufeinandertreffen. Robert Parker vergibt 95 Punkte und schreibt: This is one of the icon wines of southern Italy. It maintains its timeless nature throughout the years, in good vintages and in bad. The 2019 Montevetrano embraces the radiance and elegance of the very good vintage this was in Campania, with cool nights, good moisture and average summer temperatures. The blend is 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Aglianico and 20% Merlot sourced from a five-hectare site with clay soils. Some 20,000 bottles are made. The bouquet reveals dark cherry and black plum with bakers chocolate and exotic spice. There is an especially black fruit quality that is almost tarry from the Aglianico, and that grape really pops from the blend, as it should, since this is one of the original super Campania wines. Managed by the dynamic Silvia Imparato, Montevetrano is one of the iconic wineries of Campania. There are five hectares of vines inland at about five kilometers from the sea on the slopes of the Monti Picentini. Grapevines are surrounded by oaks, Mediterranean brush, cherry, fig and prune trees in medium-density clay soils with some schist in the upper terraces under a medieval castle. Die weltweit renommiertesten Kritiker vergeben wieder Höchstbewertungen und adeln diesen 100% Sangiovese als absoluten Weltklassewein. Der Falstaff vergibt 99 Punkte und schreibt: Leuchtendes Rubinrot. In der Nase zarte Preiselbeere, etwas Kirsche und edle Würze, hält sich insgesamt zurück. Am Gaumen eng und dicht gewoben, dabei sehr geschliffen, sehr saftig im Verlauf, im Finale sehr lange und druckvoll, endet auf leicht erdigen Noten, wird hervorragend reifen. Robert Parker vergibt 98 Punkte und schreibt: The 2019 Flaccianello della Pieve is another stunning wine that sums up the character of the vintage and reflects the sun-drenched beauty of its quintessentially Tuscan surroundings. Giovanni Manetti and his team have two new important wines in the works, but Flaccianello remains an old love and a wine that hits the highest marks for quality consistency vintage after vintage. I tasted this wine next to the 100-point 2016 vintage for friendly comparison, and perhaps the main difference is that the tannins are finer and more accessible in this bottle. It offers rich concentration and layers of dark fruit that wrap thickly over the senses. Tannin management is an active pursuit. Time in barrique has been reduced over the years in favor of a final six-month resting period in larger oak casks. In fact, the barrel room was recently enlarged to give more room to these bigger vessels. The 2019 vintage recalls the balance of 2001 with the freshness of 2013. However, 2019 is more profound. Falstaff vergibt 98 Punkte: Glänzendes, sattes Rubin mit leichtem Violettschimmer. Sehr ausdrucksvolle und tiefgründige Nase, eröffnet mit Noten nach Tabak und feuchter Erde, dann satt nach Cassis, im Hintergrund etwas Minze, vielschichtig. Am Gaumen sehr kraftvoll und mit viel süßem Schmelz ausgestattet, dunkelbeerige Frucht, dazu etwas Lakritze im Nachhall, sehr lange anhaltend. Robert Parker vergibt 96 Punkte: The Fattoria le Pupille 2018 Saffredi borrows quite a bit from all of the grapes that make up the blend (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot). These balanced results open to a round bouquet of dark fruit, black cherry and plum. As the wine warms in the glass, it shows spice, cured tobacco and campfire embers. This is a full-bodied expression, but not excessively so. It puts forth immediate elegance with carefully measured tannins and a fitting postscript of fresh acidity. This newest vintage of Saffredi should be hitting the market now, but if you buy it, you should plan on cellaring it. James Suckling vergibt 97 Punkte: A fantastic nose to this with currant, sage, rosemary and rose-petal character. Sweet tobacco and spicy chocolate, too. Very complex. The palate shows lovely depth of fruit with blackberries, blackcurrants and fine tannins. It’s racy and refined with a direct, focused palate. Just a baby. A blend of cabernet sauvignon 60%, merlot 32% and petite verdot 8%. This needs at least two or three years to soften. Try in 2023. Antonio Galloni vergibt 96+ Punkte: The 2018 Saffredi is a regal, elegant, supremely polished wine. It may very well be the most refined Saffredi I have ever tasted. Silky in its first impression, with striking aromatic presence and exceptional balance, the 2018 is a total knock-out. Sweet red cherry, plum, mocha, licorice and cinnamon accents develop over time, but it is the wine’s overall balance and poise that are so impressive today. The 2018 is an absolutely gorgeous Saffredi. It spent 20 months in French oak barrels, about 65% new. Don’t miss it. Sicherlich nicht ganz so berühmt, wie der Lamarein, sicherlich nicht vergleichbar mit dem Lamarein, weil er ein eigenständiger und einzigartiger Wein ist, der in Südtirol so nicht ein zweites Mal produziert wird. Eine Cuvee aus Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Merlot und Lagrein. Die Gewichtung der jeweiligen Traubensorte in dieser Cuvee ist abhängig von den Witterungsverläufen der Jahrgänge. Josephus Mayr versucht hier jeweils die perfekte Mischung zu komponieren, mit dem Jahrgang 2020 ist ihm das wieder einmal auf faszinierende Art und Weise gelungen.
